Lyrics3 Tag is contained between audio data and the id3v1 tag, which must be there. As you know, fields in id3v1 cannot exceed 30 symbols and therefore cannot be used for storing lyrics. Lyrics3 was created to eliminate this shortcoming. Fields of Lyrics3 aren't in fact limited so it is possible to save lyrics in MP3-file.

The MP3 tag editor is capable of saving and editing Lyrics3.

Not every program can see Lyrics3 tag. To view lyrics and long fields in WinAmp, you need to install an additional plug-in. It can be downloaded from the following site: http://www.hiker.org.il/lyrics.shtml

It's not often I put pen to paper (or indeed finger to keyboard) but when I come across a product such as mp3Tag which has been so clearly well researched, designed and built I feel moved to do so. mp3Tag is a masterpiece, it meets all of my tagging requirements and blows all similar products away - and I have tried many (many, many!) of them. Just a quick note to say how pleased i am with the mp3 tagger, it's a god send. If you own an I-pod this program is a must have.

mp3Tag is great, by the way. I am a bit of an addict when it comes to music. I download a lot of music files from blogs and many of them are poorly tagged and named. mp3Tag makes the process of making them more useful so very easy. I have hundreds of files from a time before I purchased mp3Tag and am now going through those files to fix them. I simply could not do this without mp3Tag.
