mp3Tag is great, by the way. I am a bit of an addict when it comes to music. I download a lot of music files from blogs and many of them are poorly tagged and named. mp3Tag makes the process of making them more useful so very easy. I have hundreds of files from a time before I purchased mp3Tag and am now going through those files to fix them. I simply could not do this without mp3Tag.
Keep up the great work. I look forward to future versions.

Viewing Info

mp3Tag supports tags MP3, WMA, APE, OGG Vorbis, AAC, Musepack MPC/MPP/MP+ and Apple iPod MP4/M4a-files. MP3 Tags may be of the versions id3v1 or id3v2.

When reading WMA or Ogg-files, you can only view all their tag fields. Otherwise, you should select version of MP3-tag. If you decide to use only one version (id3v1 or id3v2), there will be no problem. You will be easily shown only the required information.

However, using both versions at the same time is slightly more complicated process. In order to save screen space and make the program more convenient, information from both MP3 Tags is shown in the same fields. The second version supplements the first, and it can happen that some fields do not coincide. It can be album name, for instance. Which value should be chosen? The program follows very simple rule: it prefers id3v2. And if some field(s) in this version of tag is empty, the program takes info from id3v1.

Let's take a look at examples and see what happens.

The most popular multimedia programs WinAmp or Windows Media Player "understands" both versions of MP3-tag. As you can see, it is not very easy to edit the fields, not to mention fields for a group of files:

WinAmp

Let's tell mp3Tag that we want to read only the first version of tag. In this case we are able to get only the following fields: number of track, title, album, year, genre and comments:

Reading id3v1 tag

Now let's demand to read only the second version of tag. OK, we have read more fields, got name of the artist, lyrics and pictures, but the title is gone:

Reading id3v2 tag

Now we choose both versions. We recommend this mode:

Reading id3v1 and id3v2 tag

The result is clear. The program has shown all the fields. The title was taken from id3v1, because id3v2 didn't have it. Note that the comments differ from the first example. They were picked up from the new tag, and value "Maniac's Music Collection" was changed to "Music Collection".

You should also note that WinAmp currently cannot display lyrics and pictures yet. This option requires installation of an additional plug-in. On the contrary, Windows Media Player can display this information.
