Read what users think about our software:mp3Tag is great, by the way. I am a bit of an addict when it comes to music. I download a lot of music files from blogs and many of them are poorly tagged and named. mp3Tag makes the process of making them more useful so very easy. I have hundreds of files from a time before I purchased mp3Tag and am now going through those files to fix them. I simply could not do this without mp3Tag. |
Options MenuYou can call this menu from the main menu. mp3Tag was designed to be a simple tool. If you need to rename your audio files, select them and click "Rename files". If you need to supply your audio files with meta information, select them and click "Generate tags". Most fields are available for editing instantly, as you click a file, or select a group of files. But some things in the program can be adjusted to suit your needs better. In the main menu, click "Options".
You can see five tabs: General, View, Play and association, Skins, Proxy. The "Play and association" tab is discussed in the section devoted to playing. Skins are covered in another section. "Proxy" contains usual fields for configuring internet access through a proxy server. This is used only if you are required to access the internet through a proxy server. Contact your network administrator if you don't know how to fill out the fields. On the "General" tab (on the screen shot above) you can check or uncheck boxes to change the behavior of certain features. Most features are self-explainable. For example, if you uncheck "Show errors", mp3Tag won't report any failures. "Auto save for pressing keys UP and DOWN" - if checked, the program will automatically save tags after editing, if you press "UP" or "DOWN" arrows on your keyboard to go to the previous or next file. If unchecked, the changes won't be saved unless you click "Save". "Don't use recycle bin" - if checked, mp3Tag won't put the files that you delete to the Recycle Bin. Instead the files will be permanently deleted. "Use tray icon" - if checked, will show an icon in the system tray. "Save fields history" - keeps a history of what you type in fields. Later you can insert previously entered values by selecting them from dropdown lists. "Use lyrics templates" - removes unnecessary text when searching for lyrics by applying templates. "Approximate search of images" - uses more strict rules when searching for cover art. "Use current folder for saving images/lyrics" - the current folder will be automatically used for saving images and lyrics, if you choose to save them as separate files. "Uncheck files after generating tags" - releases files after writing tags. You may want to keep files selected if you want to rename them with new information. "Auto open "rename files" mode after generating tags" - doesn't close the Rename/Generate window after writing tags, but switches to the Rename mode instead. "Change focus after saving" - when you tag single files, the program automatically proceeds to the next file in the list after you click "Save". "After saving tags set focus at:" - defines the field that will be selected when mp3Tag proceeds to the next file after saving tags. "FreeDB server" - defines FreeDB server that should be used by the program. "freedb.freedb.org" - is a random FreeDB server, this option is recommended. "Custom genres" - allows you to add or remove custom genres (ID3v2 and similar tag formats). To add a genre, click "+". To remove a genre, select it from the list and click "-". Now, let's take a look at the "View" tab.
As you see, this tab controls behavior of mp3Tag's windows, most of the options don't require any comments. "Show files in only selected subfolders" - makes mp3Tag ignore files in the current folder and show only contents of selected subfolders, if you use "Scan subfolders" button. |
