It is possible to save additional information within an audio file. To learn more about this meta information please read “What are ID3 tags?” section.

For now we will discuss saving ID3 tags for parts extracted by splitter.

On the right pane there are ID3 tag fields. They include information about title, artist, album, year, genre, track number, and comment. These fields are common to both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags. By default Visual MP3 Splitter & Joiner saves both types of tags. You can change this to saving only ID3v1. Please refer to “Options menu” section.

ID3 tags in splitter

It is possible to save different ID3 information for every part you extract. After adding parts to split list, pick out a part from the list and edit its ID3 tags. To confirm the changes, click “Change” button, which is between “Add” and “Delete” buttons. After this you can change tags for another part.

If you don’t change the ID3 tags, information from the original file is inherited. All parts get the same tags. However such additional fields as lyrics are not copied. Mostly they are not relevant for a part. However you can get full control over meta information in your audio files with another product from ManiacTools.com, mp3Tag.

We will discuss ID3 tags in Joiner in a later section.
